Sometimes ‘miracles’ happen with absolutely no explanation or scientific basis, but the sheer joy they bring can light up the world. This has proven to be the case for the Yeats family, who are celebrating a major and unexpected milestone this week.

A girl struck down with a rare brain condition has defied all of the odds to utter her first words in four years.

Grace Yeats developed a rare brain condition – basal ganglia necrosis – shortly after her tenth birthday, leaving her unable to move or speak.

Mum Tracy has spent the past four years documenting Grace’s journey on her Facebook page, Grace Yeats Trust, and she had a very happy announcement to share after a recent hospital stay.

Well!!!!!I always hoped I could say this at some point.Grace has woken from a very long deep sleep and she can talk!...

After undergoing surgery, Grace amazed everyone when she woke up to speak her first words in years.

Taking to social media to announce the news, an overjoyed Tracy wrote: “I always hoped I could say this at some point. Grace has awoken from a very long, deep sleep and she can talk! Yes, you heard that right. She is talking! She has a good ‘yes’ and ‘no’, ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.”

“So, so excited, tears of joy, big goofy grin on my face, all the nurses coming to hear her – everyone is so happy,” she added.

While Grace’s own doctor can’t quite get his head around the miraculous development, the Yeats family are hoping that her speech will stay.

Thank you ,thank you ,thank you
