A search is underway for a three-year-old girl who vanished from outside of her home in Dallas, Texas, at the weekend.

According to reports, Sherin Mathews has not been seen since around 3am on Saturday, when her father ordered her to stand outside the house.

Wesley Mathews, 37, reportedly made little Sherin stand outside the house as punishment for not drinking her milk.

Sherin is said to have been outside for 15 minutes, next to a tree – which is opposite an alley – before Wesley came looking for her. When he went outside, there was no sign of Sherin.

Wesley waited five hours before reporting his daughter missing to the police. An Amber Alert was issued, and local officers are now searching for the missing child.

Little Sherin, who weighs about 22 pounds, was wearing leggings, a long-sleeved top and flip-flops when last seen. She has a developmental disability, and has limited verbal communication skills.

As police search for Sherin, her father has been arrested on charges of abandoning or endangering a child.

The Richardson Police Department issued an appeal for the public’s help in the search for Sherin, over on Facebook.

Locals have been left shocked and upset by the details of Sherin’s disappearance.

“It’s hard to enjoy our private lives knowing this child and others are in danger. There is no happiness until they come home safe,” one person wrote, in the comment section.

“If you live in the area: check pools, ponds, etc., water of any kind. Children with developmental disabilities are often drawn to water. Keeping her and her family in my thoughts,” wrote another.
