We mums instinctively feed our kiddos before ourselves, but that doesn’t mean we’re above a bit of grizzling when we haven’t eaten for a while.

We all have a particular way of acting when we’re hungry: babies cry, toddlers attempt to eat their fists (or just anything really), and teenagers ravage through the press like tornadoes, leaving devastated cereal boxes and bread bins in their wake.

Mums however do this:

1. Eat the kids’ leftovers

It might be a cold fish finger, or even a scraping of apple purée, but if we’re veering into hangry territory (that’s hungry anger to you and me), we’re swiping it – and yes, this means we often spoil our own dinner. Oops.

2. Forget about the diet

We’ve just dropped the kids off at crèche, when suddenly the hanger overtakes us. Of course we forget we’ve sworn off pastries, and find ourselves making a beeline to the nearest coffee shop where we quickly order a croissant and a Danish. Nom!

3. Flinch every time we hear the word ‘mum’

We love that we're mothers, but when we’re hungry and irritable and our children have called us for one reason or another about, oh, three thousand times in the last half hour (“Mum, MUM!”) we start to baulk at the word.

4. Crack at the dinner table

We’ve just sat down after cooking the family meal and looking after everyone else first. But just as we’re about to eat, there are complaints about the dinner, fights over who got more roasties, and a defiant, “I’m not eating THIS!” We’re. Gonna. Blow.

5. Wonder why our toddler is so LOUUD

We’re hungry, and dying to make something to eat, but of course our toddler is just not going to make life that easy. Between crying because they don’t like the colour of the buttons on their cardigan, to getting undressed the second we turn around, making a meal anytime soon becomes a distant dream.

But don’t worry mums, we have the PERFECT snack to keep hangriness at bay between meals. Carr’s Crinklys are a new savoury baked snacks from Carr’s. They’re tasty, handy to stick in your bag for on the go, and they’re baked, so are WAY healthier than fried crisps.
