A grieving mother in New York has demanded to be given all official records surrounding her seven-year-old daughter’s death, after receiving alarming information in an anonymous note.

Ana Iris Santiago’s daughter, Noelia, choked to death while eating lunch at her school in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, last year.

Ms Santiago went on to receive an anonymous letter claiming that teaching staff at the PS 250 school had not been properly trained in CPR, and so were not prepared to deal with Noelia’s emergency.

Adamant to find out exactly what happened on the day of her daughter's accident, Ms Santiago proceeded to request access to all statements, 911 recordings and incident reports relating to it. Ms Santiago requires this evidence to support her $25 million wrongful-death claim.

Since being refused access to the records, the grieving mother has decided to sue the city of New York for withholding important evidence in her case.

While filing official papers with the Manhattan Supreme Court this week, Ms Santiago said: “I have the right to know the background to this tragic event. I deserve the right to ascertain the complete and full circumstances surrounding my daughter’s untimely death.”

We will keep you updated on the case as more information emerges.
