Losing a child is one of the hardest things any parents will ever go through, so we can’t imagine how difficult the ordeal was for the couple who made the following shocking discovery after the death of their daughter.

Matt and Lauren Hammond were left heartbroken after their three-year-old daughter Loie passed away from a genetic disease, and their distress was taken to another level when they discovered that her identity had been stolen.

The couple made the discovery while filing their taxes in 2014, the year that Loie died, and have now gone public with their story in a bid to raise awareness of this awful but all-too common occurrence.

“It was just a kick in the stomach. You’re almost in denial and something like this, where her identity gets stolen, it’s another thing that sets you back,” said dad Matt.

Unfortunately, the ordeal has continued on into 2015 for the couple, which is due to the fact that “the IRS couldn’t issue a special PIN number on someone who had died”, according to Matt.

Branding the entire incident ‘atrocious’, Matt added: “There’s a possibility that she could own a couple of houses around the country, who knows, or have a couple of credit cards, a car, I don’t know…It’s despicable really.”

Let’s hope the relevant authorities can sort this out as soon as possible for these poor parents.
