In a bid to keep the search for their child in the forefront of the public's mind, Madeleine McCann's parents have released a photo of their daughter on an official Facebook page.

The photo, which was taken mere months before her disappearance from Portuguese holiday resort, Praia da Luz, shows an overjoyed Madeleine dressed in a Halloween costume.

The snap, which Madeleine's mother Kate McCann revealed is a family favourite, appeared on the official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page yesterday.

The photo which bears the simple caption 'Happy Halloween' has been inundated with likes and messages of support since its upload.

Reminding fellow Facebook users of the importance of keeping Madeleine in our thoughts, one social media user wrote: "This is heartbreaking. She should be with her family for Halloween. We must never stop looking for her."

Paying tribute to the little girl who vanished from a holiday apartment in 2007, another Facebook user wrote:"Thinking of you, little pumpkin. Praying you will be back home with Mummy and Daddy, Sean and Amelie soon. You are always in my prayers."

The upload comes just days after it was revealed that Scotland Yard had scaled down their investigation into the disappearance of the little girl from Rothley, Leicestershire.

Our thoughts remain with Madeleine's family and friends.
