Police have confirmed that an 11-year-old girl has died after an accident involving an attraction at Drayton Manor Theme Park, in Staffordshire, Britain.

The harrowing news was shared in a statement from the Westmidlands Ambulance Service, which read: "On arrival, crews discovered a girl with serious injuries who had been rescued from the water by park staff.

“Ambulance staff administered advanced life support before the girl was flown to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with the doctor continuing treatment en-route.

“Unfortunately, shortly after arrival at hospital it became apparent nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed deceased."

The accident reportedly took place on the Splash Canyon ride, which was closed down following the accident. The attraction is described as a water ride consisting of circular boats that take passengers on a ‘wild ride’ through waves and fast-flowing rapids.

News of the incident was confirmed via a statement from the Official Westmidlands Ambulance Service, who attended the scene at the theme park.

“West Midlands Ambulance Service can confirm it was called to reports of a patient in the water at Drayton Manor Park, Tamworth, at 2:18pm this afternoon,” read the statement.

“An ambulance, a senior paramedic officer, a paramedic area support officer, a rapid response paramedic, a community first responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were sent to the scene.

“The first resource was on the scene within seven minutes.”

Staffordshire Police went on to confirm that they were ‘in attendance’ and ‘assisting colleagues’.

Management at Drayton Manor, meanwhile, proceeded to post a Twitter update explaining that the Splash Canyon ride was now closed following ‘an incident’.

“Emergency services and our fully trained park staff are assisting,” they wrote.

The individual in question is reported to have been airlifted from the scene to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

According to Drayton Manor’s official website, the Splash Canyon ride first opened back in 1993. The height restrictions on the ride stand at 0.9m, and anyone under 1.1m must be accompanied by an adult.
