Hearts around the world have broken into pieces today, after a video of a man telling his son that his mother has died of a heroin overdose went viral.

Brendan Bickerstaff-Clark took to Facebook to share the jarring footage, in a bid to raise awareness of the devastation that drug addiction can cause.

“Today I had to tell my eight-year-old son that his mommy died from a drug overdose last night. This is the realisation and reality of our disease,” Brendan wrote, in the post.

Brendan, who is a recovering addict himself, urged anyone fighting their own battle to let the reality of this raw footage sink in.

“Don’t let this disease have to make someone tell your child that you’re dead because of drugs. This was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” he added.

The footage went instantly viral once uploaded to the social networking site, and it has understandably split opinion.

While some praised Brendan for his ‘courage’, others slammed him for sharing footage of his son in his most vulnerable state.

“This is a joke…I’m so sorry for this child. But come on! Putting this on Facebook? And smoking near this boy? Shame on you,” wrote one angry Facebook user.

We sincerely hope this little boy will get all of the help and support he needs.
