Whether it's up a mountain, down a valley or along the seafront, there is nothing quite like a family drive to really blow the cobwebs away.

With the kids in the back, the open road in front and the world at your feet, you can go ANYWHERE!

But, no matter where you plan on going, it is important that you are prepared for ALL eventualities; from accidents to 'hangry' tantrums, you NEED to think ahead.

Before you head off, make sure you tick the following things off your to-get list:

1. First aid kit

Pack it with anti-septic cream, hand sanitiser, plasters and wipes, and DON'T leave home without it!

2. Appropriate weather-proof gear

Even if it's sunny when you leave the house, you are GUARANTEED to go through four seasons before you get home. Hail, rain, wind and sun = Ireland's glorious weather.

3. A walking stick

Trust us, any drive that ends in a walk or climb will be made a whole lot easier with a stick.

4. Compass

While your phone's in-built GPS system is the bee's knees, if your battery runs out then you are totally stuck. Just learn how to use it before you head up the mountains!

5. A Nissan X-Trail

Yes, it's bit of a luxury, but the seven-seater will mean that you'll be able to fit everything in comfortably. And with prices ranging from €31,650 it’s good for almost all budgets. Plus, you can't go on a drive unless your car is sleek and cool-looking, right?!

6. A good proper camera (not your iPhone)

The last thing you want is for your phone to say: "Cannot take photo. Insufficient storage."

7. A torch

Throw a small pocket-sized torch in your pocket - it'll definitely come in handy no matter where you plan on going!

8. Emergency supplies bag

Throw a bag in your Nissan X-Trail containing a blanket, snacks, hi-vis jackets and fire-lighter, just in case you get stuck and have to wait for assistance - you can never be too safe.

True to its adventurous side, Nissan has challenged convention with the launch of the world’s first seven-seater bobsleigh. The X-Trail Bobsleigh was inspired by the design of the Nissan X-Trail and undertook its inaugural run at the historic Olympic track in Igls, piloted by British Olympic medallist Sean Olsson.
