We have heard of some alarming incidents involving heavily pregnant women in recent times, and this has to be one of those most frightening.

A mum-to-be who is 37 weeks pregnant has been rescued from an overturned boat in the middle of the English Channel.

According to reports, the woman and her partner were out on a trimaran (a type of multihull boat) at the weekend, when it overturned off Dungeness Point in Kent.

Lifeboat crew discovered the pair clinging onto the capsized boat after they sent up a distresses flare on Saturday afternoon.

The couple were rushed to shore by the crew and then airlifted to hospital to be checked over, with sources confirming that both were unharmed after the incident.

Commenting on the incident, Bob Giles of the Dover Coastguard said: “Both were wearing lifejackets. The man ensured that his partner was safe, then tied a rope around himself and dived under the vessel to retrieve a flare so that he could alert rescuers to their position.”

Thank heavens they are both okay.
