It’s that time of year when the children are catching colds and flus like there’s no tomorrow. The chilly weather and their failure to cover their noses are every mum’s dreaded duo. If you are like us, then you’ve been spending lots of time curled up on the sofa, surrounded by snotty tissues and cups of flat 7Up, but fear not, we have gathered up a list of our top tips for helping the kids feel better.
- Play Doctors
Trying to give the kids medicine can be quite the stressful task for any mum, but it is vital. We know it will make them better but the children would much rather drink a milkshake than their medicine. One thing that really helps us is to play doctors and nurses. This way the children are part of the task and it feels a lot more fun. It also helps them see that visiting the doctor or hospital isn’t as scary as it may seem.
- Bubble Baths
We all know just how uncomfortable you feel when you’re ill. Your entire body aches so why not run a warm, bubble bath for your little one? This will help soothe their aching muscles and also helps relieve congestion. Plus, it’s a fun way for them to play with their toys that doesn’t consume too much energy.
- Get Creative in the Kitchen
You often lose your appetite when you’re ill, but it is important to ensure the children are absorbing some nutrients. One thing that’ll help is being creative in the kitchen. Why not cut their toast into star shapes or create a hearty vegetable soup with beetroot? The different colour may make it that little bit more appealing for your little one.
- Cuddles
It has been scientifically proven that hugging helps relieve pain. How sweet! The kids can feel absolutely miserable when they’re ill, even if it is just a cold. They’re missing out on school, spending time away from their friends and can’t even enjoy their favourite foods. So, why don’t you grab a blanket, pop on a movie and give them a good cuddle to help lift their spirits. It will also help them feel supported, which is key when they’re under the weather.
- Make Ice Lollies
Is there anything more annoying than a scratchy throat? Coughs and throat infections are at their peak during this time of the year so why not channel your inner Mary Berry and whip up some ice lollies in the kitchen. They will help soothe your little one’s sore throat and will also keep them hydrated. It’s a win-win!
