Some fans of Ed Sheeran found themselves disappointed during his gig at Phoenix Park on Wednesday night.

There were those with standing tickets who claimed that they could not see or hear the beloved singer because merchandise stands were blocking their view of the stage.

Gig-goers also complained about how large the crowd was in proportion to the venue, saying that it wasn't big enough to hold such the 50,000 people who attended. Some people even opted to leave early because of the issues, the Irish Independent reports.

Aiken Promotions addressed these complaints, saying that the pitch has enough room for all attendees. However, they noted that people stopping at the entrance kept fans from being able to make their way to the main area where they could watch the show.

Eamon O'Boyle, Safety Officer with Aiken Promotions, appeared on Morning Ireland to explain the situation.

"We're going to increase the level of security and have a team of 30 people who are going to be policing this particular area itself to make sure that this won't occur and we're also going to create a sterile area at the entrance and this will ensure people don't congregate within that area," he said.

"There was adequate space within the venue [on Wednesday]. The problem was people kind of stopped to look at the concert and then they created a blockage there."

He said that a 'one way in and a one way out system' should help tonight, too. The system will make it so people can go out to the area with toilets and food.

Aiken Promotions released a statement providing further clarification about the organisation of the gig.

They said that people with Gen Admission (GA) tickets should know that they are standing, rather than seated, tickets. As well, Aiken Promotions recommend arriving on time. The 'Shape of You' singer should be on stage by 8:45pm, so people should be in the venue by 8:30pm.

"Please check online for details on where concessions and toilets are located and your best routes from the area you are in to those facilities," the statement read.

"There are bars and concessions left and right of the stage.

"Red Route is for seated tickets - Seating blocks A&B must enter by the North Rd entrance (Cabra and Ashtown side), Seating Blocks C,D,E must enter at Chesterfield Avenue.

"If you have standing tickets - Yellow Route or Blue route you can enter by either side - please follow signage and directions of stewards."

Have fun, stay safe, and enjoying seeing Ed tonight! We'll just be over here, turning green with envy!
