A schoolboy has been hailed as a hero after his quick-thinking actions under pressure saved his dad’s life.

Josh Williamson, 11, was at home when his dad Tommy collapsed with a heart attack. Despite being absolutely terrified, the brave young boy phoned the emergency services and managed to perform life-saving CPR, using instructions called out by a paramedic down the telephone.

In audio footage of the call, the heroic 11-year-old was heard sobbing while carrying out the treatment on his father, as he waited for paramedics to arrive at his home.

When they eventually arrived, paramedics were able to get dad Tommy’s heart beating once again using a defibrillator.

Paramedic Rachael Cavill praised Josh for his bravery and calmness under pressure, saying: “From arriving at the flat, to leaving with the patient, Josh did everything he could to help us…Despite the shock of what had happened, Josh remained so calm and collected.”

Tommy has since had a pacemaker fitted, and is recovering well. Meanwhile, Josh’s bravery has been rewarded with an award from the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

This is just the latest example of children’s amazing bravery in the face of danger, with a little girl recently saving her pregnant mum’s life after she suffered an epileptic attack.
