Hugely popular high street store, Penneys, which trades as Primark outside of Ireland, has denied claims that one of its security staff removed an infant from the arms of her mother while she was breastfeeding.

Caroline Starmer took to Facebook this week in order to share her story with members of the public, but according to recent reports, the chain store is actively denying that the supposed event took place.

According to Caroline, she was breastfeeding her nine-month-old old daughter in a quiet corner of a Leicester branch when she was approached by a security guard and guided towards the exit of the store.

Claiming she was told she would need to vacate the premises if she wanted to feed her daughter, an outraged Caroline took to social media to air her views on the store's handling of the situation.

Recalling the incident, Caroline wrote: "I stood my ground and stated my rights, that I can legally feed where I want... Just for the security officer to physically remove my daughter from my breast and walk down the store with her, saying if I wanted my daughter, then I was to come and get her."

Denying the claims, Primark have insisted that upon investigating the incident they found no evidence to back up Caroline's report.

Commenting on the controversy, a spokesperson for the store said: "The CCTV footage, reviewed by store management, shows the customer in the Leicester store quite clearly during the time in question. We can see no evidence that she was approached by anyone during this period."

Elaborating on the circumstances surrounding the investigation, the spokesperson continued: "We have spoken to the security guards on duty. They categorically deny behaving in the way alleged. Furthermore the individuals do not fit the description given by the customer."

Despite asserting they failed to find any footage which proves Caroline's claims, the store added that they would be happy to cooperate with police should their intervention be required.

Eager to placate outraged shoppers who learned of Caroline's claims, the store stated: "Our policy is quite clear. We do not prohibit breastfeeding. In addition, any customer can request a quiet or private area within the store to breastfeed her child and our staff will do all they can to accommodate such a request."
