You would imagine that the child of a super-famous and beloved Hollywood icon would have some kind of inkling regarding their parent’s status, but in a world before internet and social media, this was not always the case.

Well, it certainly wasn't for Luca Dotti, the youngest son of screen legend and Breakfast At Tiffany’s star Audrey Hepburn.

Luca has opened up about his early years as the son of one of the most famous women in the world, and it carries a very surprising revelation – he had no idea of her fame.

“To me, my mother was Audrey Dotti. I never realised she was Audrey Hepburn. I didn’t know she was a movie star. She always looked at my father like he was the centre of attention,” writes Luca, in his new book, Audrey At Home.

It would seem that Luca’s life was entirely separate from the more glamorous aspect of his mother’s, which is amazingly apparent as he recalls his reaction to being asked questions about ‘Audrey Hepburn’ by journalists.

“I’d say, ‘I don’t know who you are talking about. You must be mistaken. My mother is called Dotti.’ I didn’t know she was Audrey Hepburn until I was six or so,” he added.

The book does not just document Luca’s life with his mother, but also includes her favourite recipes and a collection of never-before-seen family photos, sure to delight her adoring fans.

Luca’s experience is certainly different from those of today’s celebrity children; it would really make you think about just how much society has changed over the past number of decades.
