Homebase have issued a warning to its customers regarding the design of their Bamboo Roll Up Blinds following concerns over the pull cord breakaways.

While eager to assure the public that no incidents of injury have been reported, the company have explained that they consider the blind's cord breakaway to be too strongly locked - a design feature which could pose a risk of strangulation to young children.

Commenting on the issue, a spokesperson for the well-known retailer has said: “We are offering customers a replacement breakaway device with instructions on how to fit the device correctly, which should only take a few minutes."

"Customers have also been advised to stop using the blind or ensure that children are kept clear of the blind until they have fitted the replacement device," continued the company spokesperson. "The safety of products sold through Homebase is of paramount importance to us and we are working closely with Trading Standard."

It is understood that the company have advised customers, who have purchased the product since June 2014, to call for a free replacement breakaway device which will be provided along with instructions.

Alternatively, concerned members of the public can simply return the blind to their nearest branch for a full refund, with the retailer's spokesperson assuring the public that no proof of purchase will be necessary.

Acknowledging the concern this may raise among innumerable families, a representative for Homebase asserted: "Homebase Customer Service Teams will also be happy to assist with any additional queries."
