As parents, we like to ensure that the homework tasks assigned to our children are age-appropriate and worthy of inclusion in the school's curriculum, so it's no surprise to learn that a recent exercise assigned to children from Bishop King Primary School in Lincoln was met with utter disgust.

Upon checking on their son Mason's homework, parents Jay McCulley and Jade Dixon were dumbfounded to see that their six-year-old child had been required to respond to a question asking: "What p*sses you off?"

Commenting on the task which was assigned last Thursday, Mr. Mc Culley admitted he was stunned by the content contained within the seemingly innocent learning sheet, saying: "I was devastated and shocked when I saw the word - I noticed it while he was reading through the sheet."

Equally shocked, Mason's mum, Jade, admitted that the aforementioned task led her to question the content contained within other tasks which she and other parents may not be privy to.

Opening up about the incident, she said: "I am angry knowing I have to leave my kids there for six hours - it makes you wonder what other mistakes they are making."

Despite receiving a letter of apology, Ms. Dixon insists the incident has cast a shadow upon her impression of her child's learning environment, saying: "I think it is disgusting and does not set the children a good example at all."

Commenting on the controversy, head teacher, Kate Rouse, acknowledged the inappropriate nature of the task, but insisted it was assigned in error following an unfortunate oversight on the part of the school.

"It is with deep regret, that a piece of homework was given to the children of Oak class last Thursday in error," she explained. "We always endeavour to check all documents, however failed on this occasion."

Acutely aware that one of the questions posed was wholly inappropriate, she continued: "We acknowledge that this document was not appropriate to be given to the children and I apologise for any distress caused."

How would you have handled the situation?
