How do I know if my child has a cold?

The common cold is  a viral infection that affects children in the same way it affects adults. Your child may complain of aches and pains and may have a low-grade fever (100°F or less). They may then start to display other symptoms such as a cough, a runny nose and a sore throat.

As colds are caused by viruses, they cannot be cured by antibiotics although over-the counter medications may ease the symptoms and bring your child relief. The best way to cure a cold is to ensure your child is drinking plenty of fluids, getting sufficient rest and getting enough nutrients.
