Colds are caused by viruses which means they don’t respond to antibiotics. Colds generally aren’t serious and typically run their course within approximately a week. The best way to treat your child’s cold is to keep them warm and hydrated. Make sure that they are drinking plenty of liquids as this will help flush the infection out of the system.
Water and natural juices are both good options. Warm drinks with honey or comforting soups will also help soothe the throat and provide your child with nutrients needed to help fight off infection. Over the counter medications can also offer relief to symptoms but if your child is under six you should check with your GP first.
