Women have been fighting battles throughout the history of our time, and although we have made substantial progress, we are still struggling for full equality today.

Feminism has recently sparked a strong, global movement challenging abortion laws, women’s wages, and sexual assaults in Hollywood.

And this little girl from a small town in Ohio wants to be a part of it.

12-year-old Julianne Speyer is already actively petitioning for overlooked girls in her Girl Scout troop.

At a 4th of July parade, both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from the area took part in celebrating the nation’s independence.

The announcer at the parade made sexist comments differentiating the potential of the boys from the girls.

While the Boy scouts were labelled as ‘future leaders of America’, the Girl Scouts were described as ‘just having fun’.

Well, Julia refused to let the unfair statement slide, and immediately wrote to the editor of her local newspaper, the Geauga County Maple Leaf.

She described her reaction as being ‘offended and disappointed’, and we could not agree more.

‘I found this comment very sexist and patronizing,’ the young Girl Scout continued, ‘I would appreciate it if you would help me to let other people know how much thing kind of thing happens and how bad it is.

‘I feel it is an insult to both girls and women of all ages. This kind of thing happens way too much and it is not OK at all.’

Julia refused to let her hard work and determination in the scouts be rattled off as ‘just having fun’.

Recently, the Girl Scouts of America have tried defeating this stigma, emphasising they’re motto of girl empowerment.

A video narrated by Queen Latifah was released in May, featuring photos of powerful women all over the world who started as a Girl Scout.

Some of the women shown are Venus Williams, Katie Couric, Karlie Kloss, Jackie Joyner, Tyra Banks, and Susan Wojcicki (the CEO of YouTube).

‘Not just making our mark but making a difference, now that’s a job for a Girl Scout,’ Queen Latifah concludes.

Julia seems to be doing just that in her fight for equal recognition. She concluded her letter saying: ‘I have always been taught that if you think something is unjust, change it.

‘So this is how I am making a change.’

This young girl is making a difference for women one letter at a time, and she has already gained support from people all over the globe.

We stand with you Julia Speyer, and we can’t wait to see what you do next. Your mum must be proud.
