Model and reality star Kendra Wilkinson has not had an easy year.
After giving birth to her second child in May, it was alleged in the press that her husband of five years, American Football player Hank Baskett, paid for sex with transsexual model Ava Sabrina London.
The couple are separated and deciding if they can work on their marriage, but in the meantime Kendra had the heartbreaking job of trying to explain to her four-year-old son, also called Hank, what is going on.
“My son is definitely not old enough for any of this or any detail or any explanation,” Kendra said in an interview.
“But he did witness the initial fight. It's funny because he's never ever witnessed a fight between Hank and me.”
“Little Hank is too young to understand all this. He was old enough to understand that mama and papa did have a big blowout fight and I had to explain what that meant. I didn't explain what it was about, but I explained that papa had to go on grown-up time-out and it was really sad.”
The upheaval in the family has been very difficult for the little boy, and Kendra finds herself frequently trying to explain and reassure him.
“He's extremely smart," she added. "He still thinks about that day sometimes and he'll bring it up and I make sure that I comfort him and tell him that we're all not perfect and we all get in fights.”
One thing Kendra has learned from this ordeal is how much stronger she has become as a person in the last few years.
“I'm about to turn 30 this year," she said. "I feel like I'm at a place in my life where I'm mature enough to handle what is happening to me in my life.”
“Five years ago, I would have never ever been able to handle it. I would've made the wrong decisions and made very quick, rash decisions without thinking about them. Right now, I'm more mature and I'm spiritual and I can slow my mind down and really think logically.”
