Actress Gemma Atkinson has been kept busy practicing her dance routines and wearing glitzy ballgowns every Saturday night. The young actress is currently competing against celebrities, including Jonnie Peacock and Mollie King, for the Strictly glitterball trophy.

The former Emmerdale star revealed that she’s enjoying the single life, and isn’t ready to settle down and have a baby just yet.

Gemma spoke to OK! magazine about her future, saying that she doesn’t think she’ll be hearing the pitter-patter of tiny feet any time soon, she’s too focused on making sure she gets the steps to the Quickstep right first.

She is currently enjoying her life as a single woman and is quite happy, “to be the crazy dog woman with meals for one.”

Gemma is embracing her single girl status and says she doesn’t feel pressured to settle down. She is focusing on herself right now, “If someone said to me, 'Right, tomorrow you can meet the love of your life and have a baby and get married,' I’d say no”, she proudly expressed.

She believes enjoying your own company is vital, “I've lived on my own since I was 17 so I'm more than happy to have my own life.”

As a young girl Gemma always fantasised about having a huge house and children of her own, however, the former Casualty star says the time isn’t right.

She feels like she needs to wait until she’s a bit older to settle down, “I’ve put it back now to 35 or 36.”

The 32-year-old admitted that doesn’t feel mature enough yet to cope with pregnancy and motherhood, “I mentally don’t feel in that place. I thought I would be ready for kids at this age, but I’m not."

Gemma is one of the top competitors on Strictly Come Dancing. The soap star has been receiving great praise from judges Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli.

Taking part in the competitive dance show has put a strain on her social life, but Gemma is thoroughly enjoying the experience so far. On Sunday night she found out the public voted to save her from the dreaded dance-off.

After the results show she thanked fans for their votes, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We are SO Grateful and SO pleased to be dancing again next week.”

The Key 103 Presenter admitted that she was nervous about the competition, but her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec has every faith in her.
