As any parent will attest, seeing your child undergo any kind of medical procedure can be incredibly upsetting.

Whether it's a filling, tonsillectomy or something even more serious, we urge our children (and ourselves) to be brave, but sometimes that simply isn't enough.

Often times it takes an outsider to whisper their own platitudes or utter their own words of comfort to placate the vulnerable little patient.

One doctor, who recently drew on his own experience as a doting dad, in order to comfort a two-year-old patient has explained the images captured of him are by no means uncommon.

Surgeon Shi Zhuo, who consoled a frightened patient before heart surgery with the same videos his own little girl enjoys, explained that those moments are often a necessary part of his job.

"This kind of scene is very normal. Doctors often comfort patients with kind hugs and words, he insisted.

The tender images which were captured by a anaesthetist were shared on Chinese social media before going viral around the world.

We can only imagine how relieved that little girl's parents were to know she was in such loving hands.
