According to emerging reports, six people, including an infant and a young child, have been hospitalised following a traffic collision in Co. Kildare this afternoon.

It has been established that a vehicle, which was being pursued by Gardaí at a distance, collided with a car on the opposite side of the road in Ballagh - a townland near Monasterevin.

Prior to the collision, social media users were commenting on local activity, with one member of the public tweeting: "Nearly wiped out this morning, car chase around Monasterevin."

"Too close for comfort. Squad cars, ambulances and even a helicopter," it finished.

It is understood passengers from both vehicles have been transferred to Tallaght hospital where one young man is said to be in a serious condition.

Gardaí have closed off the road and launched an investigation into the incident.

Our thoughts are with all those effected by the today's tragic events.
