The belief that everyone has the right to a place they can call home is at the core of the work Focus Ireland does. The charity has worked to fight homelessness since its establishment in 1985, providing the most vulnerable in society with the help and support they need to keep their homes.

Focus Ireland attempts to combat homelessness at every stage, centering its efforts on young people and families. Their first step is to help people before they become homeless, offering advice and information to help people keep their houses. This service is run from the Focus Ireland Coffee Shop in Temple Bar, where they provide people seeking help with nutritious meals. They also have similar bases in Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Sligo.

To tackle the lack of suitable housing – one of the main causes of homelessness – Focus Ireland runs a range of temporary and long-term housing all over Ireland. The charity also provides additional support such as crèches and back-to-work schemes as many people making the journey from homelessness need help along the way to ensure they sustain their home in the long-term.

In order to tackle the issue of homelessness effectively, Focus Ireland also works closely with other homeless charities, allowing a crossover of services from one organisation to another.
