From the hashtag ‘curvy’ to images of women experiencing period mishaps, photo-blogging website Instagram has clamped down hard on users in recent times.

Now, users have reacted with outrage after an acclaimed photographer was banned from sharing beautiful birth and breastfeeding photos.

Melissa Jean Wilbraham has become well-known across the world for her refreshingly candid images of mums and their little ones, but it seems the images have proven to be too much for bosses at the website.

The Queensland-based photographer opened up about her ban, telling Daily Mail Australia: “It was like being punished for celebrating the miracle of life.”

Thankfully, following major backlash from her fans and clients, Melissa’s account was unblocked – but users are angry that the incident happened in the first place.

Addressing her loyal fans, Melissa said: “How ironic that the very day World Breastfeeding Week began, my business was removed from Instagram.”

“There will always be sad humans who report my images but I will NEVER let this stop me celebrating and normalising the miracle of life,” she added.

The response to Melissa’s ban has forced Instagram to speak out about its policy on breastfeeding, with a representative insisting that the company is not opposed to breastfeeding images.
