Shocking images have been shared online of a young boy being held in an armlock by an elderly man on a train after he refused to take his feet off the seats.

British Transport Police are investigating the incident which happened around lunchtime on Friday last aboard a train from Clitheroe to Manchester Victoria.

Three boys between the ages of eight and 11-years-old boarded the train at Blackburn and were sitting with their feet on seats when the man asked them to take their feet down.

A student sitting behind the boys said the man looked to be in 70s and also commented on the young boy’s behaviour.

“They were being quite cocky.”

The 17-year-old told the Manchester Evening News what he saw of the situation.

“The guy went over and asked them to take them down and they were being quite cocky! The guy, who was in his 70s, then threatened them with a 'clip around the ear'. He then sat back down.

“The children then put their feet back up and wouldn't take them down. The guy then went over and tried taking their feet down. Then all I saw was the man hold of the child’s arm in the photo.”

Passengers on the train shared the images on social media calling for action from the British Transport Police.

They have since tweeted that they are looking into the incident.
