Gardaí are investigating a series of bomb scares in primary schools across the Republic of Ireland today, which led to buildings being evacuated.

According to reports, students and staff at schools in Cork, Limerick and Dublin were told to evacuate as emergency service responders performed sweeps of their buildings.

Apparently, one of the first schools to receive a scare was Milford National School; gardaí later declared the building safe.

Scoil Colmcille in Donaghmede, and another school in Midleton, Cork, were also forced to evacuate; both scares were also later confirmed as hoaxes.

Reports suggest that the hoax calls were connected and phoned in from an automated system.

It is now thought that there could be a link between today’s incidents and those of yesterday, in the UK, during which bomb threats were issued to around 27 schools across Britain.
