Lights are glowing, bells are ringing, and the festive spirit is well and truly upon us. Now that the countdown to Christmas has begun, people all over the country are looking to kick-start the celebrations – and the markets are top of the list.

It will come as great news to you then, to learn that Ireland’s biggest festive event, the Galway Christmas Market, is launching tomorrow!

The market will be officially opened on Friday, November 20, by Irish rugby star Robbie Henshaw, and looks set to delight locals and visitors from around the country.

For the first time ever, the Galway Christmas Market will be a city-wide event, and the broad range of activities and features reflects just how popular the event has become in recent years.

With Eyre Square set to be transformed into a magical Christmas village, market-goers will be able to sample delicious foods and drink while indulging in a little Christmas shopping. So, you can enjoy some mulled wine and a bratwurst while browsing through cosy wooden chalets selling everything from crafts and toys to jewellery and decorations!

An extended section of the market, at Spanish Arch, will also feature a host of vintage amusements and stalls.

Tomorrow’s official launch looks set to be a truly magical affair, kicking off at 5:30pm with a parade, and all are warmly invited to attend.

The Galway Christmas Market will run daily until Tuesday, December 22, and the opening hours are as follows:

  • Mon – Weds: 12pm to 8pm
  • Thurs – Sun: 10am to 10pm

So, whether you’re a Galway native looking for something fun to do after work, or you feel like taking a road trip to get into the festive spirit, the market will surely not disappoint.
