An Irish child was rushed to hospital after nearly drowning in a swimming pool while on holiday.

The five-year-old was swimming in the pool at Hotel El Pinar Cala Llonga in Santa Eulalia in Ibiza when he ran into trouble.

A life guard rescued the boy from the water and performed CPR on him after, local reports say, he suffered a cardiac arrest.

He was rushed to a local hospital before doctors decided the severity of his condition  was too much and sent him to Son Espases Hospital on the nearby island of Majorca.

Reports today suggest the young boy is doing better and in a stable condition after being released from intensive care.
