A number of Irish parents have come to Gardai attention after administering a controversial treatment to their children.

The parents, whose children live with autism, believed a substance known as Miracle Mineral Solutions (MMS) would help to cure their child of the condition.

Promoted by the Genesis Church of Health and Healing, the treatment has, after a joint investigation by the Health Products Regulatory Authority and the Gardai, been established as nothing other than industrial strength bleach.

The church, which is led by former Scientologist Jim Humble, claimed the treatment cures conditions including autism and AIDS.

Despite Gardai involvement, there is currently no legislation in place which can stop parents administering MMS, which has been described as a water purifier, to their children.

The investigation into the controversial treatment continues.
