Lucinda Creighton, a politician in the Republic of Ireland, has given birth to a bouncing baby girl.

The 8lb, 10 ounce baby was born yesterday to the Reform Alliance TD and her husband Senator Paul Bradford, who married in 2011.  This is the couple’s first child.

Senator Bradford was by his wife's side during the birth at Holles Street maternity hospital in Dublin.

The couple, who met in 2008, married on April 29th, 2011, at the Trinity Chapel in Trinity College - the same date as the high-profile nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Last July, the couple were both expelled from Fine Gael for voting against the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill.

Before voting against the bill Ms Creighton, from Dublin, was Minister for European Affairs.

The mother and child are said to be doing well.
