People all over the world have been sharing their touching festive discoveries this month, and a member of our very own MummyPages community has sent us her own special story this week.

Reader Annie Gough found a ‘small slice of history’ while moving back to her family home recently – her late uncle’s childhood letter to Santa.

Discovered in an old unused chimney, the letter is dated from November 1951, and was written by Annie’s Uncle Tony when he was just 10 years old.

As you can see, a pellet gun topped the list for Tony that year; just check out that beautiful handwriting – it would put us to shame today!

Tony was raised in the house with his three brothers and sister (Annie’s mother), and he sadly passed away five years ago.

Now that Annie’s mother has moved to a nursing home, Annie is moving into the house with her own family, and it was builders who alerted her to the incredible discovery.

As you can imagine, being handed over a piece of history from her family has been a wonderful and emotional experience for Annie – and she can’t wait to see what else might turn up!

“I wonder what other treasures we will unearth along the way,” Annie said.
