She was found guilty of second-degree murder last week, along with her father Thomas, and now details of Molly Martens Corbett’s case are being released.

Molly and her father, former FBI agent Thomas Martens, were charged with the second-degree murder of Jason Corbett. They have been sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison, each.

Molly and Thomas had attempted to plead self-defence over the murder of Limerick native Jason. The father-of-two was found bludgeoned to death on August 2, 2015, in his home in North Carolina.

It emerged during the trial that Molly, who initially entered the Corbett family’s lives as a nanny, had tried to reach out to Jason’s children, Jack and Sarah, multiple times after his death.

The court heard how Molly had referred to herself as ‘Mom’ in Facebook messages to the children, and reflected nostalgically over photos of them together. She also sent them a phone number and email address, in a bid to get them to make contact.

It has been revealed that Molly claimed that her husband was physically and emotionally abusing her.

The Corbett family are extremely perturbed by the allegations, especially the inferences regarding Mr Corbett's late wife Mags, who died in November 2006, though they declined to comment publicly.

These accusations come as an uncle of Molly claimed there is an innocent explanation for the presence, on the bedroom night stand, of a heavy paving slab used to kill Mr Corbett.

According to Molly's uncle, the heavy brick used to kill Jason was part of a children's art project for Jason's children.
