Specail K testing review
In the past I would have purchased many of the products from Kelloggs, for the two children I would have bought Coco Pops, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, Crunchy Nuts and Frosties. The husbands favourite would be Crunchy Nuts. For myself I would have tried most of these over the years. The last few years I would be more aware of my health and my weight, so had bought All Bran, Fruit and Fibre and Special K Original.
I feel that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and gives your metabolism the kick start it needs, Kelloggs have such a range of cereals that there is something for the whole family, I won't let the children leave for school unless they have had their bowl of cereal. I am aware that Kelloggs don't make cereals for any other company.
A high fibre cereal is extremely important, they supply carbohydrates in your diet along with minerals and vitamins, and typically contain low amounts of fat. Also by Kellogg's fortifying their cereals with nutrients like iron, folic acid, riboflavin and thiamin, they unsure that we meet the daily diet recommendations of vitamins and minerals.
It is very important that Special K is low in fats as for someone watching their diet this is extremely important. And it is such a plus that they taste great, sometimes food that are good for us do not taste good. Have to say I really enjoy a bowl of Special K most mornings. Would have only brought the Original flavour of Special K in the past. After tasting the Red berries Special K cereal I will be buying this one too, it tastes lovely.Beleve that red berries can protect you from heart disease, can lower your cholesterol, source of fibre to name a few benefits. With having the two flavours of this cereal I feel it will give variety to my breakfast, would still prefer the Original flavour but the Red berries is a nice change.
My Son loves any type of berries and the last few days he has been asking for Red Berries Special K for breakfast so by testing these products there has been a change in this house, and would like to thank you fro allowing us to test these products for you. As I have said it is great that these products are so good for us and can with a balanced diet help weight loss, and the benefit is that they taste so good that you don't realise how good for you they are, sometimes knowing that certain foods for us are good for us they can turn us off. Have got friends over the last day or so to buy these products to taste who would normally bought other products or skipped breakfast altogether, so a win win for all.
I hope this covers the areas you needed, if not let me know, thanks

I always buy Kellogs cereals. I buy Special K, Crunchy nut flakes, rice krispies, coco pops, sugar puffs, frosties or whichever cereal the kids want. I know Kelloggs only make cereal for themselves and I would certainly say all their cereals are of the highest quality. High fibre cereals aren't that important to me but healthy ones certainly are. Healthy to me means low in fat, no extra sugar, additives or preservatives. Thats why its great that Kelloggs cereals have important vitamins and minerals in them and are low in both fat and saturated fat. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I always make sure the kids eat a good nourishing breakfast. That's why I love this new special k as it is healthy and nourishing and I love the crunchier taste in it. It tastes better than the original and the kids love it too. I'm not mad about the red berries as I don't like raspberries. Its the new special k for me all the way. Thanks for choosing me for your review and I look forward to any more tastings you may have.

I have purchased special k before but never the red berry variety so i thought I would give that one a go first. Loved it but would like more berries but i love fruit :D found it handy having them in the press for the mornings when i didnt want to have porridge or weetabix. As i do weight watchers i am akways on the lookout for good nutritional food that will keep me full for a good while and i found that the special k did just that. Will be recommending them to friends and family.

Hi There, as a busy mum of 4 year old twins, the kids were delighted when the Postman arrived with the cereals. I've always bought Special K red berries, but have never tried the latest fibre cereal. We normally buy Special K red berries, Rice Krispies, Coco Pops and Frosties - a lot of sugary cereals, amongst other non Kellogg brands. The first morning the kids were dying to try the new cereals so after a quick taste to make sure they liked it, they ate it all. Second day they wanted the Red Berry variety. I tasted the new Fibre one and to my delight it is so much more tastier than Bran Flakes which I would put it up against.
Breakfast to me is so important for the kids, the first meal of the day and I generally notice their mood after Breakfast - ie. sugary cereal I can't get them out the front door because they are hyper, but with a nice Healthy cereal inside them it is a lot more calmer.
My kids are a definite fan of the Red Berries and I like to mix the Fibre cereal with the Red Berries - nice variety.
Thank you Kelloggs for letting me trial these cereals, they will both be on my shopping list in future.

Thanks so much for letting me take part in this trial. We always have Kellogg's cereal in our house, Rice Krispies for the kids and Bran Flakes for me for the fibre content. I have tried Special K before, and whilst I liked them, they weren't a favourite. We don't buy own brand cereals, they just don't match up. A healthy breakfast for me and my kids means eating something good and sufficient in the morning before we start our busy day, and I like that Kellogg's fortifies their cereals with important vitamins and minerals.
I'm aware that grain based foods such as cereals are important in our diet, so I'm always happy for hte kids to have a bowl of cereal, even if it's not just for breakfast. I don't allow the mention of dieting in our house, it's all about eating healthy, eating in moderation and and eating what makes you feel good. And as far as I'm concerned Kellogg's cereals do just that. I like that Special K is focused on that and not so much on dieting and losing weight. If you're careful about what and how you eat, there is absolutely no need for dieting. Everything in moderation as they say.
I really enjoyed the Special K Red Berries, it's a nice change from the original one (although that one was nice too). The kids and hubby also wanted to try it and whilst the hubby liked the Original one, the kids were big fans of the berries. We will definitely be buying it again, and I've also got my friend hooked too.
Thanks again for letting us take part.

Absolutely loved being part of this trial. We eat cereal in our house like it's going out of fashion. We'll often have it for supper as well as breakfast. The kids normally eat Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Multi Grain Shapes and Crunchy Nut or CoCo Pops for an occasional treat.
The kids were delighted to see the boxes arrive - they were so excited, we decided to try it there and then. They really enjoyed the Red Berries, which was surprising, becuase they don't normally like the fruit additions in cereal. I have to say, my favourite was the Original flavour. I have bought Special K before, but I don't remember enjoying it that much, it was fine I guess; so the improved recipe has definitely made a difference. We all really enjoyed both of them, and the kids are already asking for it again.
Fortified cereals are important for me and my family, and they are a great healthy start to the day. The kids aren't always interested in eating toast etc for breakfast, and neither am I to be honest, but cereal is always a winner.
I'm always looking for ways to ensure we as a family eat less fat and saturated fat and it's good to know there is less of each in new Special K. And I like that now Kellogg's are talking about Special K with a view to eating well and feeling great - I do watch my weight, but I don't always want to be thinking about dieting. Good also to know that Kellogg's cereals are fortified with vitamins and minerals.
We really enjoyed taking part in this trial. Thanks so much.

It was great to get the package and start the trial I am a fan of special k already and i follow weight watchers so I always have to weigh them to make sure my pro points are ok. I just had this week the red berry special k and it's so yummy the berries are almost sour tasting but in a good way . They are high in pp so I have to weigh 30g and it's hard because I would eat a full bowl. My 2 yr old I'm surprised also really enjoys them too.

I have not purchased Kellogg’s Special K In many years as I had tried it in the past but found it bland.
I would normally purchase Kellogg’s Cornflakes and Rice crispies.
I am very aware of the Kellogg’s brand and logo and that they do not make cereal for anyone else. I have tried own brand cornflakes and ricecrispies and have noticed the inferior difference in taste straight away, they tend to be overly soggy and very tasteless.
I would normally purchase a cereal high in fibre for myself as I find it’s the easiest way to get fibre into my daily diet.
Healthy breakfasts would have to contain necessary vitamins and minerals and of course fibre.
I have recently become more aware of the importance of having grain based food in order to get fibre in my diet.
I do find it is good that cereals by Kellogg’s are supplemented with vitamins and minerals.
I am happy that the new recipe for Special K is low in fat and saturated fat.
I prefer the original Special K as I tend to go for less sweet cereals but the berry was tasty.
I like the idea where there isn’t a constant mention of dieting and losing weight.
I would recommend this product to family and friends.

Well what can I say!!!!! Absolutely loved the Special K berries - never tried any of the fruit cereals with fruit - and to be honest TOTALLY CONVERTED. I am doing Slimming World at the moment and it is great to get away from porridge and weetabix and this was a fab change - only problem was there was a row over them as the kids loved them too. TG husband hasnt tried them yet or I would be in real trouble - NONE WOULD BE LEFT FOR ME!!!! lol
We always ate Special K in the house at different stages of the year, all of us are fans - to be very honest I could not tell much difference in the new one - I really liked it too.
Thanks very much for letting us try these great products and from now on there will always be a box in our press.
Thank you

I recived my Kellogg's Special K Mum say trial, thank you, [/i]Well yes its delicious & yes I love it. I think the taste is good, its crunche & the cereal does not go soggy like some cereal do if left in milk too long, it crunchy to the last bite, which I like. [/i]A healthy brekfast is important to me & my family, usually in the winter I have porridge & was looking for something nice & healthy for the late spring & summer, Kellogg's Special K is just what I was looking for, its tasty, crunchy & good for me & mine, simply its delicious & I love It.
[/i]Its also good to know Kellyogg's fortifies its cereal with minerals & vitamins, this I didn't know, but am happy with. A high fibre cereal is important to me, & i like a cereal I don't have to add sugar to, with Kellogg's Special K all I add is milk & spoon which is great. I belive a good brekfast cereal sets me up for the day & Kellogg's Special K does just that. I have eaten Kellogg's Special K Red Berries before & I liked it but I enjoyed the Original Kellogg's Special K varietie alot & I included it in my weekly shopping this week & I'll be buying it from now on. I liked the Original Kellogg's Special K best & some mornings I added Blue Berries to it. [/i]I'm not all about diets, but I like to watch my diet & eat heathly & I know with Kellogg's Special K I'm doing that, we are what we eat, & what we put in is what we get out, so with Kellogg's Special K I know I'm having a delicious, healthy, tasty, good brekfast, which I'd recommend with confidence to my friends & family[/i]The only thing negative about Kellogg's Special K is its price, it is a bit on the pricey side for the size of the box, I only got 8 bowls out of the 400gr box, which only gave me & my 2 daughters two morning breakfast, & my son had none, pitty, so I'll have to hide my box of Original Kellogg's Special K, so I'll have breakfast every morning,[/i]Thanks for the opportunity for the Kellogg's Special K Mammy say Trial[/i]Yours

I used to regularly buy Special K, but for some reason I haven't bought it in months, so it was a treat to get a chance to try the new recipe. I always enjoyed the old recipe, but I have to say there is something much nicer about the updated one. It's crunchier I think. I'm not mad about berreis in cereals, or anything in cereal really, but I did try it, not for me I'm afraid. However, the original is gorgeous - really tasty.
I do think breakfast is important, and we always have Kellogg's cereals in the house. We don't buy non brand cereals, nobody likes them and they end up in the press for months before being chucked. So it's a waste of money.
The fact that Special K is, or is not perceived as a diet cereal has no bearing on whether I buy it or not, we are a family of healthy eaters, so I don't put too muh emphasis on 'diet' and that word is never mentioned in my house. I don't go on about healthy eating and living with my kids - that's jus the life we lead. I also don't get bent out of shape about the sugar and salt in products. I'm fully aware of what sugar is in our daily meals and snacks etc and I know how to ensure my kids and family eat a healthy balanced diet, with an active lifestyle without having to go on about it to them or anybody else. The important thing for me, as the one who does the shopping, the one who makes the lunches and the one who is responsible for all the meals in the house, is that I understand what food I'm offering, but also to ensure that I work on an 'everything in moderation' approach. My kids really enjoy food and meal times, they eat everthing they are offered - no such things as picky eaters. A healthy breakfast is important to me, and it forms part of our healthy living environment.
Thanks so much for allowing me taking part in this trial, reminded me how much I like Special K - it will be back in the shopping trolley this week.

I regularly purchase Kelloggs cornflakes and Rice Krispies for myself and my family because i find them to be one of the lowest in sugar content at 8g & 10g per 100g respectively. Other cereals are alot higher in sugar content and i don't want my young girls eating them. I notice that Special K 3 grain & Special K Red berries contain 17g & 23g respectively. I would have my concerns about my children eating both cereals because of the sugar levels. I accept that the red berries cereal may have naturally occuring sugars in the fruit and i personally loved the taste of the Special K Berries. I did ask my kids to try the 3 Grain as did i and we all loved the extra crunch and bite of the 3 grain. A good fibre cereal is important as a good start to the day and releases much needed energy throughout the day. My family and I have a good fibre diet and i encourage my kids to eat their 5 a day fruit and veg and often add pine nuts, pumpkins seeds and added grains wherever i can. The fact that your cereals are fortified with important vitamins and minerals ensures a healthy daily diet which is so important for young ones. Both Special K 3 grain and berries are low in fat and saturated fat but again i am tending towards Kelloggs cornflakes and rice krispies which are even lower in fat and saturated fat. I personally loved the Red Berries and will definitely purchase it again for myself. I would have no hesitation either in purchasing the 3 grain again for myself however, i may mix it with cornflakes or rice krispies for my kids. Loved the taste of both and many thanks for the opportunity to take part in your Special K trial. Susan Cunningham

It’s been a while since I tried Kellogg’s Special K; I always liked the taste, but, on occasion, I found that it wasn’t very filling and I’d want to snack by mid-morning. Lately, I had been eating porridge, as I was aware that wholegrain cereals leave you feeling fuller for longer, but, unlike Goldilocks, I can only take so much porridge!
It was therefore a real treat to try the new Kellogg’s Special K with rice, wheat and barley. I definitely noticed a difference; it still had the same delicious Special K taste, but I didn’t feel the need to eat again until lunchtime. The Special K Red Berries were very moreish, they were a real treat with cold skimmed milk.
It’s certainly reassuring to know that these cereals are formulated to be nutritionally balanced, high in fibre and low in fat and saturated fat. This is a particular priority for me at the moment as I am watching my diet, having just had baby number two, also I have lately been diagnosed with gallstones, so I must follow a very low-fat diet.

I was delighted to be chosen to take part in this trial. Kellogg's are the cereal of choice in our house. Rice Krispies, cornflakes, frosties, cocoa pops, multigrain shapes, moons and stars and Special K even variety packs all make regular appearances. I always choose Kellogg's over own brand cereals the difference is obvious in the taste and quality. I am also very conscious of the fact that the cereals are fortified. Very important for developing children. From a health point of view I like to keep an eye on sugar fat and salt content in the food my children eat. It's a cliche but very true that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I notice the difference in all of us if it is skipped or we don't eat well.
Whole grain, fibre, low saturated fat, vitamins, iron are all words that attracted me to the new Special K. Great taste is what won the kids over. We all enjoyed it very much. I didn't expect to like the red berries version. I wouldn't have chosen it when shopping but it was lovely. Maybe could do with a few more berries but overall very tasty. It was light to eat but I stayed full for longer after eating Special K. I would definitely recommend either of these cereals both on the basis of contributing to healthy eating and for their great taste

Our household are big breakfast fans and so we were delighted with the opportunity to try the new three grain recipe form Special K. Many families don’t focus on breakfast due to sheer lack of time but in our house, it’s definitely an important meal and we always have it before we leave the house (usually together). I think it’s important to get a proper start to every day and a quick tasty breakfast cereal is one of the easiest ways to do it. The fact that the new Special K which we tasted for this trial has a lower fat and salt content was good to hear. Now it’s made with 3 grains (rice, wheat and barley) and wholegrain and does look slightly different to the old one. I did notice a different taste – more wholesome and crunchier. While it is healthier and more nutritious, I did notice that the calorie and sugar content have not changed. Sugar was listed as the second ingredient by volume which was also a bit disappointing.

We have always been very loyal Kelloggs customers and breakfast cereals play a large part of our every day routine. We would purchase a wide range of cereals - Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, Coco Pops, Special K and Fruit n Fibre. There are no restrictions in our house – we buy them all and our cupboards are never short. At least 6 cereals would usually be on the go all the time. Everybody has different tastes and variety is the spice of life!

Healthy cereals with a high fibre content and extra vitamins and minerals are important to me but not critical. I like to see that these are included, it would encourage me to buy them. However, if they weren’t a feature, it wouldn’t turn me off - a bonus but not a prerequisite. We like to try new varieties and change around what we purchase from week to week. Along with health considerations, taste, variety and value for money are key for us.

Healthy to me means added vitamins, minerals, fibre, low in salt and sugar and a relatively modest calorie count is always a plus. Healthy breakfast in our house consists of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and some toast or wholegrain bread. We never have a fry up or hot meal at breakfast time even at the weekends, it’s just not part of our routine and none of us ever got into the habit of it. We are aware of the need for plenty of wholegrains and fibre and try to ensure we get enough in our daily diets, which I think we all do. I do find it helpful to know that Kelloggs fortifies it’s cereals with vitamins and minerals. We have always bought Kelloggs and we haven’t really tried any other brands such as Nestle or own shop brands. During the winter, we would take Odlums porridge now and again, if time allows.

Of the 2 varieties we tried, the general consensus was that we preferred the Original. The berries were slightly synthetic and sweet. To be honest, we would prefer to add our own fresh berries or other fresh fruit instead of the dried fruit pieces. The original was crunchier, tastier and more popular with us.

I definitely like the idea that the Special K weight plan centres on eating well and feeling great. It’s a refreshing change from the constant focus on weight, calories and size. What is important is that women feel good on the inside and that leads to an automatic improvement on the way women look on the outside. Everybody is different and the best way to look and feel good is to have a varied, nutritious and healthy diet with a balance of all the necessary vitamins and minerals. It’s good to see Kellogg’s are focussing on that aspect of a woman’s lifestyle.

At home, our family goes through cereal fads and what’s popular one week is out the next. At the moment, the new Special K is the definitely the favourite, it keeps us all satisfied, it’s healthy, tasty and it’s a novelty. We’ll see how long this lasts!
