Police in Kent have launched an investigation after a new mother was stabbed on her doorstep on the Southill Road in Chatham last Tuesday evening.

Donna Cross, who welcomed her baby daughter Jordannah Skye just eight weeks ago, was confronting a gang of youths who were making noise out her home when one of the individuals attacked her.

Opening up about the shocking incident, Donna's boyfriend Jon Stone explained: "There are always youths hanging about in the street, making noise. Donna had just reached the end of her tether."

"It all happened so quickly; neither of us realised she had been stabbed at first. Then Donna felt the blood on her chest. I thought she was going to die," Jon admitted. "All I could think of was our baby daughter being left without her mum."

Following the altercation, Donna, who lost two-and-a-half pints of blood, was rushed to King's College Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery, but thankfully survived the brutal assault.

According to reports, while Donna's attacker narrowly missed her heart. he did cause significant damage to the new mother's breast bone.

It has been established that a 19-year-old man was arrested following the incident, but has since been released without charge, with Kent police confirming: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."

We're wishing Donna a very speedy recovery.
