It’s hard to believe that the World Trade Centre atrocities took place 14 years ago, and the recent spate of tragedies in Paris has brought that devastation to the surface again for many people.

In an inspiring move, Vox interviewed a number of young people who lost parents in 9/11 and asked them to share a message from the heart to anyone who lost a loved one in the recent Paris attacks. As you can imagine, the finished video montage makes for very emotional viewing.

In the video, these inspiring young people share their feelings then and now regarding their personal tragedies: the difficulty of understanding terrorism and moving on, how they ‘shared’ their experience with thousands of people, and how hope has helped them through their ordeals.

In a time of such grief for the people of Paris, their messages about the importance of smiling and loving life definitely shine through and will undoubtedly bring comfort to those suffering, if not right away then in the months to come.

“You don’t want to live your life with hate. You don’t want to live your life with anger,” says one young man.
