The old adage advises us to be kind to those we meet each day, as we never know what secret battles they are fighting, and the following report is wonderful proof of its power.

A mum-of-four has hit the headlines this morning, after a Facebook post about the surprise ending to her awful day went viral.

Australian mum Toni Saul took to the social media site to pay tribute to the kind checkout assistant who helped her in more ways than she imagined when she forgot her credit card during a recent shopping trip.

Toni, who welcomed her fourth child three months ago, detailed how she only realised her mistake when she got to the counter, and with four young children – including her five-year-old paraplegic daughter – to look after, it all got a little too much for her.

Rather than click her tongue and roll her eyes as others might do, this checkout assistant could not have been more helpful; after putting all of the groceries through and giving Toni the time to run home and get her card, she reached out to comfort the emotional mother.

“I broke at that moment…Tears flowed…But this wonderful lady gave me hope. She told me it was ok and I was doing a great job and not to stress. She put pieces of me back together and gave me the strength to continue my day when I was ready to give up,” wrote Toni.

To add to this unnamed lady’s kindness, she also ran out after Toni to present her with a bouquet of flowers and a hug after she had packed all of her shopping away.

“What an amazing lady, and I hope the staff and admin at Coles Forest Lake treasure her as an employee,” added Toni.

In a follow-up interview with website Kidspot, Toni revealed that she has been struggling with postnatal depression since her youngest child’s birth, and this lady’s gesture gave her renewed hope after such a difficult experience.
