One in 10 breastfeeding women is affected by mastitis, a condition in which the breast tissue becomes red and swollen, usually due to a blocked milk duct.

Celebs certainly aren't exempt from the excruciating pain of mastitis. The Good Place star Kristen Bell opened up recently about her experience with the condition.

The mum discussed 'the good, the bad, and the ugly of motherhood - but mostly the ugly' with Scandal's Katie Lowes on the latest episode of Momsplaining.

Kristen recounted how she's suffered from mastitis three times, and had to take antibiotics for it twice.

The third time the mum-of-two experienced the condition, she and husband Dax Shepard were in Atlanta and unable to call a doctor. Just a warning - this rest of this tale may not be for the squeamish.

"This was right after the baby stopped nursing," the 37-year-old noted.

"'So I said to my husband, I'm going to need you to suck this out."

Oh boy. That is some devotion there. The Parenthood actor helped his wife out and, Kristen said of the moment, "I've never been more in love."

The Veronica Mars actress and Katie dished about more than mastitis, though.

New mum Katie confessed that when she first returned home from the hospital with her newborn, "'I just felt this pressure, like I totally loved him, but I loved him in an abstract way. I also felt like I brought him home and I was like, who is this stranger in my house... I'm just supposed to be a mom now?"

"I felt the same way, and I don't feel like anyone talks about that," Kristen replied, "It is a stranger. As humans, we make connections through experiences. I had had no experiences with this person."

Thankfully, though, mum Kristen feels very close to daughters Lincoln, 4, and Delta, 3, and we're sure Katie is connecting with her four-month-old son Albee.

''Thank god he's cute, because he's, like, ripping my nipples off," Katie joked.

"It is a little bit strange to go from an autonomous woman to then all of a sudden being a food truck," Kristen said of breastfeeding, "Because that's essentially what you are."

"And if the latch is wrong," she continued.

"Ouch," Katie hilariously (and accurately) responded.
