Two months after Danielle Cumberworth's husband past away, she received an unexpected gift.

The 27-year-old, Ashley Grant-Smith lost his battle with cancer.

He fought for two-years against the rare form of blood cancer and past days before the pair were due to marry.

A few months later, Danielle discovered delivery note at her Kent home.

Speaking to the Leicestershire Live Danielle recounted that day.

“Two months after Ashley died, I got home from work and had missed a parcel being delivered. I went to the sorting office and picked it up.

I opened it up in the car in the car park and it was an engagement ring from Ashley."

Discovering the unexpected gift was a happy moment, as she continued:

“It was a total surprise. I didn’t cry, I laughed. He had not told me about it at all. It is a beautiful diamond ring in white gold."

The couple had previously purchased wedding bands in preparation for their nuptials.

Whilst Danielle was organising the paperwork with the registry office, she got a call from her future father-in-law.

“As soon as I stepped inside the register office, I got a call from Ashley’s dad...He told me to come back as soon as I could.

"I knew then that Ashley had died."

In the wake of his passing, there was a very special reason why secret engagement arrived late.

“The ring had taken months to get to me because he had had it specially made to his own design," she explained.

"I will treasure it forever, and our wedding rings that were never used.”

What a heartfelt surprise!
