As every parent knows, monitoring your child's internet use can be a time-consuming and concerning process, so it's no surprise that the launch of a child-friendly search engine signalled welcome news for millions of families around the world.

The launch of Kiddle, which looks remarkably like the Google search engine, was created in an effort to filter out adult-related content online, but it seems not everyone is impressed.

Using the Google Custom Search bar, the site purports to block inappropriate content by forbidding the use of explicit search terms or indeed, the names of celebrities which may result in a display of adult-only content, but it appears some terms may have slipped through the net.

Commenting on the search engine which boasts an intergalactic theme, the site explains: "Sites appearing in Kiddle search results satisfy family friendly requirements, as we filter sites with explicit or deceptive content."

And while the search engine has received positive reviews from many members of the global parenting community, concern has been raised among technology experts at Google who have distanced themselves from Kiddle, asserting it is the product of a separate company.

While it is understood that the first three results following an online search offer safe sites created specifically for children while the following four feature content written in child-friendly language, a number of parents in the UK have complained about the presence of inappropriate content.

Taking to Twitter to warn other parents that the search engine is not as child-proof as one may necessarily think, families have been advised to continue exercising caution when it comes to their childrens' internet use.
