We take so much for granted in our everyday lives, and the ability to see the world around us has to be one of the greatest luxuries afforded to us. This is why the story of Christopher Ward Jr. has touched so many hearts around the world.

The 12-year-old has become an internet sensation, after footage of him seeing his mum’s face in focus for the very first time in his life went viral.

Legally blind Christopher was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, and as a result, he had never seen mum Marquita Hackley’s face – until one incredible day in April.

While the devoted mum was told on more than one occasion that nothing could ever be done to help her son’s sight, that all changed when she was told about eSight’s electronic glasses.

She and Christopher set out to Washington D.C. last month to try out the glasses – leading to the following heart-warming moment, as documented by ABC News.

Immediately, as you can see, Christopher began to see the world in a completely different light – and brought his mother to tears after seeing her face properly for the very first time, and telling her that she is ‘pretty’.

With a price-tag of $15,000, Marquita turned to crowd-funding in the hopes of raising the money, and the world responded in the most amazing way. The current sum on the fundraising page stands at over $25,000 – and Christopher’s glasses have reportedly been ordered and are on their way to him.

What a truly incredible twist in Christopher’s story. We’re wishing him all the very best as he starts a new chapter.
