Christmas can be a difficult time of the year for people who have lost loved ones, and this is exactly why the following set of photos has gone viral around the world this week.

A nine-year-old has connected with his late father, a police trooper who died last August, in a stunning photo series that is making waves online.

Steven Vincent was a decorated officer who died on the job four months ago. During his career, he won a range of accolades including the Professional Excellence and Meritorious Service Award.

Recently, Steven’s son Ethan participated in a photo shoot to honour him, with the photographer using old images of the late father to connect the pair.

The images show Steven in Ethan’s reflection, with Ethan giving a soldier’s salute to his father as he continues on his journey without him. The nine-year-old wore his late father's trooper's hat especially for the photo shoot.

The images, which were captured by photographer April Reeves, have gone viral since being shared to Facebook, and it’s not hard to see why.

Photographer April wrote in a post to the page: “I truly hope that when he is older he is as happy to have these treasures as I was to capture them for him. This child is amazing, strong, and so very proud of his dad.”

“There is something about the way he lit up when talking about his dad and the pride that radiated from him when he placed that hat on his head,” she added.

What a truly incredible gift to have this Christmas.
