Having been left in a vehicle with her three-year-old brother while their mother chatted with people outside the car, the little girl’s older sibling unearthed a handgun from within the car and accidentally shot his younger sister.
The child, who sustained injuries to her face, was flown to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg following the tragic accident which took place on Friday afternoon.
Following the incident in the small city of Venice, Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies have asserted that no criminal charges are expected to be brought and have also confirmed that the little girl is expected to make a full recovery.
It is understood one shot was fired during the shocking incident which is unfortunately the latest in a long line of tragic incidents involving children and firearms in the States.
