A nine-year-old girl from the United States has been lauded by emergency services after she single-handedly saved the lives of her three younger siblings when a fire broke out in their home in Georgia.

The youngster, whose name has not been released to the press, sprang into action when she was realised thick, heavy smoke was pervading the mobile home she shared with her brothers and sister.

Making her way through the house which was slowly being engulfed in flames, the little girl led her one-year-old sister and three-year-old brother to safety before returning to the property to rescue another brother.

Having been alerted to the emergency by a nearby resident, rescue crews arrived on the scene and swiftly established that the four children has been left unattended by their parents.

Answering to police officers, Gregorio Garcia-Gomez, a boyfriend of the childrens' mother admitted he had left the children sleeping inside the property in order to collect his girlfriend from her place of work.

It is understood that Mr. Garcia-Gomez has been charged with cruelty to children and has had a bond set at £9,600.

Thankfully, the children were treated in hospital, but have since been released.
