When one little girl from the States struggled to come up with suitable idea for a fancy dress day at school, she did a little soul searching and realised she had had the answer all along,

When four-year-old Josie from Missouri was informed her school was throwing a Superhero Day, the little girl made a sudden decision which has warmed the hearts of thousands.

Bucking the trend which saw fellow classmates sport Superman and Batman costumes, Josie simply donned a homemade cape and went as the superhero she already is.

Currently undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of two, Josie is, thankfully, in remission, but not out of the woods just yet.

Attending the doctor for daily check-ups, Super Josie still undergoes spinal taps and needle pricks with all the bravery exhibited by a real-life superhero.

Arriving to school on the special day, Josie told impressed classmates that she was "destroying cancer one day at a time."

Commenting on her child's courage in the face of adversity, Alyssa Butler simply said: "She's a superhero to me. She's something - she's really outgoing, she's not scared of anything in this world I don't think."

Speaking to CBS News, Josie's proud mum hopes her child's approach to the illness will inspire other ill children, saying: "For the kids that do have cancer, I hope they see that they can be their own superhero -  see how strong they are and what they're capable of."

We can't think of a braver little girl to lead the way!
