If you cast your mind back, you may remember that making friends in school wasn't as simple as our parents insisted it would be.

And today, while we encourage our own children to widen their circle of friends at every opportunity, deep down we know that that sometimes just isn't possible.

One little girl, who recently reminded us just how difficult it can be, is the beautiful Molly-Raine Adams from Co. Antrim.

Tasked with writing a wish list, seven-year-old Molly, who has been diagnosed with autism and ADHD, requested she find a friend with a number of very important qualities.

Laying bare her desires, brave Molly-Raine wished for a friend who understands her, knows she has autism, smiles all the time and sees her coming when she's sad.

Highlighting the poignancy of her daughter's note which she shared on Facebook, Molly-Raines's mum Karen told ABC News; "It takes a lot for Mol to stay on task and write anything and she did this homework independently which is a huge achievement for her."

Recalling the afternoon that her little girl put pencil to paper, Karen revealed: "She thought about it for a good while first and I think she just wants what all children want, to be understood and accepted for who she is."

According to her doting mum, Molly-Raine also suffers from anxiety which manifests when confronted with something unexpected, explaining: "She panics and gets upset and vocal tics or says the wrong thing but really she just wants other children to understand why."

Molly-Raine's note has caught the attention of television stations around the world, with social media users praising the little girl's courage and determination.

We're sure the beautiful Molly-Raine will have her dreams realised sooner rather than later.
