We LOVE summer. It’s the time when we emerge from our winter cocoons ready to go places, meet people and have some fun as a family.
And a huge part of that is sharing food together – so with all the occasions we have planned for the summer months, we need a go-to nibble that’s delicious, handy and healthy.
So that's why we've decided to declare summer cracker season!
Here are 7 summer occasions made special with crispy, crunchy crackers:
1. A yummy Sunday brunch
Hosting a Sunday brunch at home with the family can be much easier (and cheaper) than going out. It doesn’t have to be all slaving over the cooker – have you considered a smorgasbord of salads, dips and meats ready to pile onto crunchy crackers? Kids will love the element of choice, and sharing food together in this way is a lovely way to bond as a family.
Our topping pick: Smashed avocado, Parma ham and rocket.
2. A tasty girl’s night
Because God knows we ladies need some chill-out time, right? Crackers are the perfect fancy snack to nibble on over the chats. A glass (or three) of wine, some posh cheeses and great conversation and we’re happy!
Our topping pick: Goats cheese, walnuts and a dash of honey.
Our dip pick: Homemade mango salsa with diced mango, pepper, coriander and red onion. So fresh.
3. A delectable dinner party
Why spend ages cooking a starter when you can whip up glorious cracker bruschetta in minutes? We’re loving iconic cracker brand Carr’s fancy range of Flatbreads, which are just screaming out to be slathered in all sorts of goodies or dipped into something unctous and gooey. Nigella who?
Our topping pick: Homemade salsa of diced tomato, red onion and coriander, drizzled with some chilli flakes and olive oil. Yum.
4. A flavourful festival
Yay, festival season! It seems every week in the summer there’s a new festival or event taking place across Ireland – brilliant to help us keep the kids busy over the holidays. Crackers are the best snack to bring on the go; they’re easy for kids to grasp, they store well and they’re a lifesaver to have to hand in between meals.
Our topping pick: Rumbling tummies will love peanut butter and sliced banana.
5. A scrumptious picnic in the park
Summer was made for picnics. And maybe it’s just us, but doesn’t food always taste so much better when eaten outside? Crackers are a fab addition to a family picnic. Simply fill food savers with salads, coleslaw, cold meats and dips, add a few boxes of crackers and voila, a delicious picnic without the mess!
Our topping pick: Tangy cheddar, relish and rocket.
6. A delicious BBQ
You know what it’s like in Ireland – the second we have a dry, warm weekend the BBQ is dragged out of hibernation. But have you tried piling your grilled meat and salads onto crackers instead of burger buns? Shredded chicken, cooked veggies and dollops of creamy mayo taste heavenly on a thin, crispy cracker.
Our topping pick: Grilled chicken, Cashel Blue cheese, spinach leaves and a dash of mayo.
7. A mouthwatering movie night
We love our family movie nights, yet we often feel tired, sluggish and unhealthy after gorging on sweets and biscuits. With crackers it’s easy to create gorgeous, relatively healthy TV snacks the whole family will love. With a selection of fruit, nut butters and cream cheese you can make an indulgent yet nourishing feast!
Our topping pick: Cream cheese, sliced strawberry and maple syrup.
Our dip pick: A fruity Greek yoghurt. Try it, it's delicious!
YUM! Is your mouth watering as much as ours? And what’s your go-to cracker combo mums? Sweet? Savoury? A mix of both? We’d love to hear from you!
