On Saturday morning at about 3:50am, a 17-year-old girl was injured in a hit-and-run in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow.
She was only about 500 metres from home when she was hit.
The teenager remains in critical condition at Beaumont Hospital.
Gardaí have been appealing for witnesses since the incident, and now a man has voluntarily presented himself to Bray Garda Station.
He went to the garda station this morning, and the Irish Independent reports that he was interviewed for a number of hours. He was then arrested.
The man is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice at Bray Garda Station.
