According to emerging reports, a man has been charged with attempted murder and attempted child destruction following a stabbing in Sutton Coldfield on Friday.

In addition to these charges, 41-year-old Babur Karamat Raja, who left a 40-year-old woman in a critical condition in hospital this weekend, was also charged with possession of a knife in a public place.

Issuing a statement to the media following their daughter's brutal assault two days ago, the woman's family said: "We'd all like to express our heartfelt thanks to everybody who helped her on Friday afternoon."

"Your fearlessness and selfless actions saved both their lives and we are overwhelmingly grateful to you all," they continued. "We have no further comment to make and we'd ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time."

The victim is today said to be in a stable condition and her child was thankfully delivered safe and well despite the horrifying attack in the town centre.

According to West Midlands Police, Babur Karamat Raja will appear in Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow.
